关于 (About)
(1.1) This CEDICT program needs CC-CEDICT data provided by MDBG Chinese-English Dictionary - CC-CEDICT ↗ website to run (in 21.04.2023, CC-CEDICT has about 121000 entries of dictionary records). Please download the latest copy of CC-CEDICT data from the website into local folder of PC, unzip it, and use the and buttons to open and process the data.
(1.2) This CEDICT program can also open and use any dictionary file that is formated according to CC-CEDICT data format.
(2) After opening and processing, the CC-CEDICT data and its sorted version will be loaded into The 5 TextAreas (as shown below). A table containing the Statistics of CC-CEDICT data will also be generated by program.
(3) Please note that, to avoid program errors if editing is allowed, thus the 5 TextAreas are made "readonly".
(4) For the convenience of users, this dictionary program has also added The 2 Extra TextAreas, one is for keeping sample Cedict data (some pin yin "a" records only) for users' testing, the other one is for users to create and input temporary Cedict data for immediate usage.
(5) By default, this CEDICT program will use the sorted CC-CEDICT data for searching. User are allowed to select other data, the TextArea's background of existing selected and in-used data will be set to bright green colour for identification.
(6) For pin yin ü, CC-CEDICT uses u:, not v, to represent it, eg: 女 女 [nu:3] /female/woman/daughter/, 綠 绿 [lu:4] /green/.
(7) In CC-CEDICT, some Chinese records contains English alphabet or numerical numbers, for example: A, AA制, B超, BM, CP值, C盘, IP, IP剧, X光, XO酱, 996, 88, 421 ... etc. Using [Find by PY] to search may not be able to locate such records, we must use [Find by GB] or [Find by Big5] so as to find them and their respective explanations.
(8) Searching of single-character word [eg, 人, 物, 民, ren, wu, min] tends to produce large amount of matched records; whereas searching of multi-character word [eg, 人人, 人物, 人民, ren ren, ren wu, ren min> will produce less but more precise matching records. Hence, whenever it is possible, multi-character search should be used. This is especially so when searching is done with [Containing] method; the search criteria will be very wide that all data containing the search word and conforming to the search format will be selected; thus in order to get a precise result, it is best to use multi-character word to do the search.
(9) Please note that, as this program will use Regular Expression search pattern based on CEDICT format to search the CEDICT database records, so sometimes when searching is done with [Containing] method and using single-character word, it may match those CEDICT records with extra [pin yin] used in their English explanation section, (----- eg1: 待會兒 待会儿 [dai1 hui4 r5] /in a moment/later/also pr. [dai1 hui3 r5] or [dai1 hui5 r5]/ ------ eg2: 帆 帆 [fan1] /sail/Taiwan pr. [fan2] except 帆布[fan1 bu4] canvas/ ------) and will produce unexpected matched results. But this program will exclude such results, furthermore, such results can also be prevented by using multi-character word to do the search.
(10) Some English acronyms used in this program: 繁体=ft=big5=trad, 简体=jt=gb=simp, 拼音=py=PY, 注音=zy=ZY, 拼音数=拼音数字=PYN, 大五码=big5, 国标码=gb.
(11) Some notes on how to find by: pinyin(PY), zhuyin(ZY), pinyin-mix(PY-mix). The “按劳分配” example mentioned below can be found in .
(a) Find by PY: Can be done by 3 methods, for example, to find “按劳分配”, (i) Use pinyin without tone marks, (an lao fen pei), (ii) Use pinyin with tone marks, (an4 lao2 fen1 pei4), (iii) Use pinyin with partial tone marks, (an4 lao fen1 pei).
(b) Find by ZY: Can be done by 3 methods, for example, to find “按劳分配”, (i) Use zhuyin without tone marks, but, as zhuyin without tone mark is usually used to represent 1st tone of zhuyin, therefore it can only use light-tone mark of zhuyin as a subsitute, (˙ㄢ ˙ㄌㄠ ˙ㄈㄣ ˙ㄆㄟ), (ii) Use zhuyin with tone marks, (ㄢˋ ㄌㄠˊ ㄈㄣ ㄆㄟˋ), (iii) Use zhuyin with partial tone marks, (ㄢˋ ˙ㄌㄠ ㄈㄣ ˙ㄆㄟ).
(c) Find by PY-mix: Can be done by 3 methods, for example, to find “按劳分配”, (i) Use pinyin without tone marks, (an lao fen pei), (ii) Use pinyin with tone marks, (àn láo fen1 pei4), (iii) Use pinyin with partial tone marks, (àn lao fēn pei).
Note: Actually, for Find by ZY and Find by PY-mix, this program will always convert the zhuyin (fu hao symbols), (eg, ㄅㄆㄇㄈ), and, pinyin (fu hao symbols), (eg, āóěìū), to pinyin first, then it will use method similar to (11)(a) above, to Find by PY, thus using these two methods are more time consuming.

TextArea 2: The [NB portion] of the selected CEDICT file will open here
TextArea 3: The [non-NB portion] of the selected CEDICT file will open here
TextArea 4: The Sorted [non-NB portion] of the selected CEDICT file will open here
TextArea 5: The Sorted [NB portion + non-NB portion] of the selected CEDICT file will open here
For large loaded dictionary file, it may slow down your PC, you can empty some of the following un-used TextAreas to alleviate the problem.
NB1: TextAreas 1, 2 and 5 are for displaying only, they will not be used, you can empty them after view.
NB2: TextArea 3 is for displaying the original non-sorted CEDICT data, it will be used, but you can empty it if you do not need to use it.
NB3: TextArea 4 is for displaying the sorted CEDICT data, it is the default data to be used by program, although not advisable, but you can empty it if you do not need to use it.
After processing and sorting, the statistics of the selected CEDICT file will be shown below.
